BIOMES OF THE WORLD
The global sum of all ecosystems is called a biosphere. A biosphere is a global ecological system which consists of any closed, self-regulating system. This “system” combines all living beings and their relationships along with their interaction with the elements of the lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere. The biosphere consists of major biomes (which are often referred to as ecosystems).
What is an Ecosystem?
An ecosystem, which is short for ecological system, is a complex network of interactions between the living resources (sea, earth, atmosphere), habitats (the natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or other organism), and residents of an area (plants, animals and other organisms). What is a Biome?
Biomes are large geographic regions of the world with similar plant structures (such as trees, shrubs, and grasses), leaf types (such as broadleaf and needleleaf), plant spacing (such as forest, woodland, savanna) and other living things that are adapted to the climate and other conditions.
TYPES OF BIOMES:
Tropical Rainforest, Temperate Deciduous Forest, Coniferous Forest, Chaparral, Desert, Temperate Grassland, Savanna, Polar Ice, Tundra (Arctic and Alpine) are the nine main terrestrial ecosystems.
Marine and Freshware regions are the two main aquatic ecosystems.
